WHAT DOES GDPR SAY ABOUT DATA BACKUP & RECOVERY?
There are now many justified reasons why any Third Sector Organisation large or small, really needs to push itself in to implementing regular Data Backups and not forgetting the all important Recovery element of this process.
Now in a post EU's General Data Protection Act (GDPR) Compliance requirement world, you should already be aware that if you Collect, Store and Process items of Personal Data or Sensitive Data, then there will likely be several areas of 'Technical Organisation Measures' that your organisation will need to investigate at the very least and so you can do the right thing by your Stakeholders data.
You can read more about this area of GDPR, in the Information Commissioner's Offices (ICO) documentation on the subject: https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/security/
There is one of four areas of the Article 32 - Security of Processing that you should hopefully be aware of;
(c) the ability to restore the availability and access to personal data in a timely manner in the event of a physical or technical incident;
Of course, in the wider scheme of Cyber & Data Security, you should already have planned and detailed within your organisation, as to where your most valuable Data is located, what exact devices, how are they protected, what happens if that device fails and so forth.
Next, you will or should already be backing up this data internally at a minimum, via the many data storage methods on the market and available to you - this is classed as 'On-Site' Data Backup.
Additionally and most importantly, you should also have already implemented an 'Off-Site' Data Backup, which is held in a secondary location to your 'On-Site' method mentioned above. This really helps to cover as many eventualities with your organisations Data Security and it's Availability to you and your stakeholders.
There are now so many threats to your data, whether it be through Human Error, Malware Attacks, Ransomware, Internal Destruction of Data from Disgruntled Personnel or Device Failure amongst many others, that if you don't have the above in place, please do ask yourself the following question;
Can we continue if we lose some, or all of our critical operational data?

We can then proceed through the setup process with you, selecting exactly which files and folders that you’d like to be backed up and finally set the backup running.
